I was a submariner aboard a large nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine in the 70s, and we were fortunate to have a few World War II veterans still serving when we came along.

I’ve come to the conclusion that most wartime memories are so painful and traumatic that many veterans don’t want to relive them by talking about them. They want to put it all behind them, and I can’t say I blame them.

The chain serves complimentary meals to active U.S. military and veterans on Veteran’s Day. Let’s hear it for Applebee’s appreciation and patriotic support for our military heroes!
