They know what they were like as young men and are super protective of their daughters. My younger son has two boys and two girls. When the first girl was born, he stated emphatically that she wouldn’t be allowed to date until age forty, and when her first date came calling, he would find her dad sitting in the living room with a rifle resting in his lap.

My dad had to know what time the movie ended and how long of a drive I would take to get home. I never had a standard curfew. It always depended on where I was going (if approved) and how long it would take for me to get home. That included if I needed to go to the mall with my friends. Without cell phones, he figured it was his way of knowing where I would be when.
